Q. What programs does the Housing Authority administer?

A: The Hackensack Housing Authority only administers the Public Housing Program.
Q. Why doesn’t the Housing Authority administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Rental Subsidy)?

A: The Housing Authority had a small Program that was given to the county for their administration. Interested applicants should contract the Bergen County Housing Authority for information regarding the rent subsidy program.

 

Q. Does the Housing Authority have elderly and family units?

A. Yes. The Housing Authority owns 6 sites, 2 family and 4 elderly.

 

Q. How do I obtain an application for admission to the Housing Authority public housing program?

A. Applications may be filed on-line by clicking on the public housing program link.

 

Q. Is everyone eligible for public housing?

A. No. Applicants must meet federally mandated income guidelines which are based upon the size of the family. In addition to the income guidelines, the Housing Authority follows its adopted Admission and Continued Occupancy Policy. This policy provides specific information on applicant eligibility and continued occupancy for existing tenants.

 

Q. Can I have a pet in my unit? 
A. The Housing Authority allows pets as long as they are in strict compliance with the Housing Authority’s “Pet Policy.” The policy has size and weight restrictions on all pets. It also limits the number of pets that a family may have and provides guidance on the owner’s responsibilities. All pets must be approved and registered with the Housing Authority.
